I got unprecedented results in 2016-I ran my best ever marathon despite having bronchitis, I bought my dream house in the city, I hired a designer to redo my new kitchen, I got the dog I longed for, I became less angry and bitter and started to repair my marriage, and I was navigating my daughters’ teenage-years.

I didn’t purposely set out to make all of these changes, though.

In the early months of 2016, I was struggling in every way imaginable–emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually. I found myself literally crying in the middle of the street during one of the long run days of marathon training because I couldn’t even run 8 miles (which I should have been able to do with ease).

While on the internet, I stumbled across an elimination protocol called Whole30. This program claimed that it could improve physical performance (among many other things), so without a second thought, I bought the book, read it from cover to cover, and got started.

I went all in. And two weeks later, I ran 13.1 miles better than I had in months. Just two weeks after my 8 mile mental breakdown.

It was from this program that I learned that what we eat matters–not just to our bodies and our health, but to our mindsets too.

I am proof that you really can take back control of your life. You really can positively impact everyone around you when you decide to take care of yourself.
