God gives you your dreams as a preview as to what is possible for your life.
Ed Mylett, from his podcast episode, “Achieve The Impossible”
When my husband and I decided to move forward with our RV life plans, we started “shopping.”
We weren’t really looking to buy the RV right away; rather, we were looking to see how the RV life would feel.
Whenever we found an RV that had potential, we would linger a bit.
We moved around the kitchen as if preparing our meals or making our morning coffee. We sat at the table as if we were eating our dinner. We lounged on the couch as if we were watching TV. We peered out the windows as if we were seeing mountains and valleys and everything in between.
I didn’t know it then, but we were doing exactly what Ed Mylett calls “touching your dreams.”
Mylett shares on his recent podcast episode the idea that our minds move toward what is most familiar, so if we want to achieve big dreams, we must first make our minds comfortable with what it is we are trying to achieve.
When Mylett was just getting started in his sales career, he created an incentive for himself to hit certain sales goals.
Each month that he was successful in hitting that goal, he and his wife would spend one night in a swanky hotel that they otherwise couldn’t afford. They’d order wine, have dinner, go to the spa, play golf–all the things.
The first time he went, he felt so out of place. He didn’t know how to use the valet, how the tipping worked, where anything was, how to act at the pool, etc.
The next time he went (4 months later), he was more familiar with the environment.
Upon subsequent trips, he stared to feel like he belonged.
The idea of “touching your dreams” is to become familiar with your dreams, to BELIEVE that you are indeed capable of achieving, having, being, experiencing what it is you desire.
In life, we will never exceed what we believe we’re worth or we deserve…we will never acquire or be somewhere we don’t believe we belong.

Mylett says there is a formula for achieving the impossible. You envision, touch, experience, believe, familiarize, and finally have.
After listening to this podcast episode, I realized that every quantum leap my husband and I have made in our lives has come as a result of following this formula.
In July of 2016 we bought what I considered to be my dream home: a 1930’s Tudor in an area of old-time mansions–which seemed like more of “yeah, that’d be nice” than a “I’m going to make that happen.”
But 6 months before we bought it, I created a vision board. I spent time every day feeling what it would feel like to bring that vision to life.
I spent hours every night on Zillow looking at the homes that were for sale deciding what I liked and didn’t like.
I created Pinterest boards.
I drove through neighborhoods and went to showings and mentally rehearsed my living there.
I talked about my desires with anyone who would listen.
We made offers that weren’t accepted.
And by the time our house popped up on Zillow as “coming soon,” I recognized the opportunity and took it. I called our realtor and told her to do whatever she had to do to get us in that house before it ever hit the market because I just knew it was mine.
I did the same process when it came to getting my dog, my Audi Q3, our vacation to Key West, becoming a life coach, and of course, buying the RV.
In life, we will never exceed what we believe we’re worth or we deserve…we will never acquire or be somewhere we don’t believe we belong.

So, where do you start?
Here are some questions for you to think and to journal about:
- Are you dreaming? Do you have a vision? Do you know how you want life to feel? Do you know what it is you want to achieve, create, receive?
- Are you believing? Do you believe it’s possible for your dreams to come true? Do you believe you are capable of making it happen? Do you believe that what you desire is meant for you?
- Are you driven? Do you feel inspired to take intentional action toward creating your desired results? Do you see each day as an opportunity to bring your dreams to life?
As a life coach, I help you create your best life from the inside out.
I start by helping you create a vision for your life, and then we get to work on choosing and developing the thoughts and the beliefs that bring that vision to life.
I have client openings for June. Click HERE to schedule a FREE session where we can talk about what’s going on for you and about how I can help.
If you continue to live unfamiliar with your dream, you will die unfamiliar with it. But if you begin to familiarize yourself with your dream, with mental rehearsal or physical touch or the actual experience of doing it on a short term basis, there is a high probability that when you are at the end of your life, you will have lived that dream.
